Journalist Carolyn Webb has written an interesting article in the Melbourne newspaper The Age, about Marcel Leereveld, who will be turning 104 on Saturday, 4 December.
Here are two excerpts:
He writes weekly articles, on computer, for an Esperanto magazine. He is an opera fan and a keen gardener.
He was born in Amsterdam in 1917, and Esperanto has been a passion since 1934, when his grandfather, who believed it would be better for world peace if everyone spoke the same language, ordered him to tune in to radio lessons for the invented language.
Mr Leereveld says helping his family and the Esperanto community help keep him going.
Thanks to Nicole Else and Heather Heldzingen, who made this happen.
